What I Wish I Knew Starting Out in Pharmacy đŸ€”

If you're feeling unsure right now, read this

Hey mate!

I’ve been thinking lately about how much pharmacy teaches you — not just about medicines, but about yourself.

And if I could go back and give my younger self some advice, it wouldn’t be about study tips, or how to be faster in the dispensary, or anything technical.

It would be this:

Confidence isn’t something you wait to feel. It’s something you earn through action.

When I first started out, I had this idea that once I knew “enough” — once I was fast enough, smart enough, experienced enough — then I’d finally feel confident.

But the reality is, confidence never arrives wrapped up in a neat little package like that.

It’s something you build along the way:

  • It’s built when you step up to counsel a patient, even if your heart’s racing.

  • It’s built when you admit you don’t know something and ask anyway.

  • It’s built when you stay present during the busy days, even when you feel stretched thin.

The scary moments are the training ground.

The mistakes, the doubts, the awkward conversations — they’re not proof you’re failing. They’re proof you’re learning.

And honestly, looking back, the people who grow the fastest in this industry aren’t the ones who know the most facts off the top of their head.

It’s the ones who are willing to lean into the uncomfortable parts and keep showing up.

So if you’re feeling unsure or a bit overwhelmed right now — good. It means you’re doing it right.

You're in the thick of where the real growth happens.

Keep backing yourself.

The confidence you’re looking for is already being built — one action at a time.

Talk soon,

Gus
