What I Wish I Knew Starting Out in Pharmacy đ€
If you're feeling unsure right now, read this
Hey mate!
Iâve been thinking lately about how much pharmacy teaches you â not just about medicines, but about yourself.
And if I could go back and give my younger self some advice, it wouldnât be about study tips, or how to be faster in the dispensary, or anything technical.
It would be this:
Confidence isnât something you wait to feel. Itâs something you earn through action.
When I first started out, I had this idea that once I knew âenoughâ â once I was fast enough, smart enough, experienced enough â then Iâd finally feel confident.
But the reality is, confidence never arrives wrapped up in a neat little package like that.
Itâs something you build along the way:
Itâs built when you step up to counsel a patient, even if your heartâs racing.
Itâs built when you admit you donât know something and ask anyway.
Itâs built when you stay present during the busy days, even when you feel stretched thin.
The scary moments are the training ground.
The mistakes, the doubts, the awkward conversations â theyâre not proof youâre failing. Theyâre proof youâre learning.
And honestly, looking back, the people who grow the fastest in this industry arenât the ones who know the most facts off the top of their head.
Itâs the ones who are willing to lean into the uncomfortable parts and keep showing up.
So if youâre feeling unsure or a bit overwhelmed right now â good. It means youâre doing it right.
You're in the thick of where the real growth happens.
Keep backing yourself.
The confidence youâre looking for is already being built â one action at a time.
Talk soon,
Gus
