• Block out distractions: Use the Pomodoro technique (25 mins focused study, 5 mins break) to train recall and focus.

• Simulate the exam: Don’t just read – practice aloud. Record yourself explaining scenarios and listen back to spot gaps.

• Tackle weak areas first: Make a list of topics you avoid – those are the ones examiners love to test. Prioritise them now.

• Peer practice: Role-play scenarios with a friend or colleague. You’ll be surprised how much you retain when you verbalise.

• Control your first 5 minutes: A calm, structured opening answer sets the tone for the whole exam.

• Think out loud: Examiners want to hear your clinical reasoning, not just the final answer.

• Pause before you answer: It’s better to take 5–10 seconds to structure your thoughts than to ramble.

• Anchor to legislation & guidelines: Whenever possible, reference NSW Poisons & Therapeutic Goods legislation, AHPRA standards, and PSA Competency Framework. It shows professionalism.

• Stay professional under pressure: Even if you stumble, reset with confidence – examiners value resilience.
