“Re: (URGENT) Pharmacy Complaint”

“Re: (URGENT) Pharmacy Complaint”

These words will make any pharmacist tremble at the sight of it.

Relax! You're in the clear!

However you have to admit, any mention of “complaint” or “error” immediately triggers a “fight or flight" response in any healthcare professional…

So what do you do at times when unfortunately mistakes do happen?

This may sound like a simple question for some of you, however for our upcoming pharmacy interns and students, this is a part of the job that isn't talked about much…

Maybe it's taboo, or maybe we as preceptors and mentors, don't want to shed light on our past errors or mishaps!

Understand this! We are pharmacists, we are the medication experts of the community, a beacon of knowledge and confidence for patients of all shapes and sizes!

Yes that's true, of course!

However, we are human and, like in all things, we are fallible.

Mistakes do happen.

Even the very best, most astute and experienced pharmacist can fall victim to this, and if they say otherwise, it's a LIE!

So, now that I have shattered your view of your favourite preceptor/PIC/boss, you might be thinking, 🤔

“Why are you telling me this Gus?”

Well my friend, the reason is because it's a reality that I want you understand from now while you are early on in your career, and I want you to understand 3 KEY THINGS!

  1. HOW DO ERRORS HAPPEN?

  2. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU DISCOVER THE ERROR?

  3. HOW DO YOU PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN?

Jump onto my LinkedIn and I break down the 3 KEY Elements you need to keep in mind to ensure that your pharmacy experience is seamless…

Speak to you all soon,

Gus 🖐
