New Year! New Beginnings! New Opportunities!

TOP 3 TIPS for Pharmacy Interns in 2024

Happy Friday everyone!

The week is coming to an end and so is 2023! 🎉🎉🎉

Congratulations on making it this far! 🤣

With the New Year right around the corner, that means there is a FRESH batch of pharmacy interns commencing or continuing their journey into the…

 Wild World of Pharmacy.”

Now if that's you, you might be asking yourself…

“What do I do now?”

“What are the requirements to get registered?”

“What exams do I need to sit?”

“How do I study?”

“WHAT do I study?”

These are all legitimate questions that need to be answered…

Now in a perfect world, pharmacy preceptors should be well equipped with the resources and time to pave the way forward for all of you bright-eyed interns to succeed and start your pharmacy career on a strong note!

However, we don't live in a perfect world….

Community pharmacy is a dynamic, free flowing and fast-paced world.

I get it, it gets busy!

Scripts coming in left, right and center.💊

Patients needing your advice. 🖐

Vaccinations to prep and administer.💉

Webster Packs to organise for the local nursing home.🥼

The list goes on and on.

By the time you have a moment of peace and quiet, your shift is about to end..

So what happens to that time for you and your preceptor promised to allocate for revision and practice? 🤔🤔🤔

Wouldn’t it be super helpful if you have a quick, easy and engaging way for you to jump on a specific topic or even subtopic within pharmacy, whether it’s:

  1. Pharmacy Insights from Industry Leaders

  2. Pharmacology

  3. Physiology

  4. Disease States

  5. Public Health

  6. OTC Scenarios

  7. Legal and Ethic scenarios etc

Well, no need to imagine, as it is now a reality with the new “PharmacyDownUnder” YouTube Channel which is going to be the platform where all of our courses will be run from!

Now I know why you’re still here, you want to get my TOP 3 TIPS!

I haven’t forgotten about you! 🤣

So when it comes to how to approach and make a difference in your internship, I will give you insight into my PERSONAL experience!

1. Design a “REALISTIC” timetable! 📆

Timetables are one of the most integral elements that help cement a sense of structure.

Structure not just when at work, but you would need to design a timetable that overlooks your day to day activities!

It needs to be a priortity to have time allocated for social activities, exercise and family/friends on top of your internship/work hours.

There is no point obsessing over exam prep 24/7… that will simply lead to a crash and burn out scenario. 🤯🤯🤯
