AHPRA Exam's are out.. now what???
How to now make the most of your pharmacy career
The AHPRA and APC Pharmacy Internship Exam results have officially been released!
To those who have passed, CONGRATULATIONS! 🥳🥳🥳
To those who might have not, keep your head high, as this is now an opportunity to really refine yourself to perform in the next round!
So now you have exams out of the way, an official pharmacy registration pending and now you sit there with this dilemma.
“I have no idea what I’m doing?”
How do you transition from intern to pharmacist?
You have a new set of responsibilities, new rules, new goals.
This is time for what I call, the “Self-Audit.”
You need to sit down and re-evaluate your skills, your weaknesses and your goals.
Pharmacy, as I have mentioned time and time again, is one of those sectors in the healthcare industry is as wide as you want it to be! As cliche as it sounds, “the world is your oyster.”
If you are in a community pharmacy, speak to your preceptor/PIC regarding the transition and have a clear plan ahead of time of what working as a new additional pharmacist (adding to the existing roster of established staff) will be like.
What value can you bring to the chemist that is new and fresh?
Can you start a new service?
Can you reach out to aged care facilities to organise DAAs?
Are you interested in starting a Diabetes Education Clinic?
These are discussions that NEED to be had, BEFORE you officially are registered.
This is a big moment, and the way you approach it can shape the kind of pharmacist you become.
Take a deep breath and think about where you want to go from here.
Talk to your preceptor or PIC, get their advice, and start planning your next steps.
Think about what excites you. These conversations and plans are important to have now so you’re ready to hit the ground running once you’re registered.
Your journey is just beginning, and the best part?
You get to decide where it takes you.
Keep learning, stay curious, and trust yourself—you’ve got this!
